A duplex that makes its presence felt through depth, shape and bold architectural form. The interplay between the two homes gives the development its character, bringing a strong sense of individuality to a familiar housing type.

On Hills Road, Phil Redmond’s duplex gives a familiar housing type a distinctive architectural presence. One two-bedroom home and one three-bedroom home share a language of curved brickwork, timber detailing and carefully composed forms, while retaining individual layouts. Depth and shape give the exterior its character; inside, curved walls, natural timber joinery and polished concrete carry that thinking through. Open-plan living connects with outdoor space, and the planning separates shared living areas from more private rooms.

The compact site becomes an opportunity to work closely with proportion, light and the relationship between the two homes. Together, they demonstrate how urban infill can contribute something memorable to the street while keeping the practical experience of living at the centre of the design.
